HOW TO EXCHANGE AND BUILD LINKS

OFF SITE SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION SERVICES

A very necessary part of any well optimized website regards back link building.  They can be one way links coming in to your web site, link exchanges between two sites, web directories and links pages or sub-categorized mini-directories like this one (common, but not recommended).  This page and the links to each page linked to from this page are almost all dummies.  Sites that actually use these category pages aren't doing themselves or anyone else a favor.  The theory behind this sample directory link exchange area is that the most powerful back-links come from pages optimized in such a way that they relate to the type of business featured on the page.  This is because the page title, the meta-tags, the other optimization and site links on the page and all of the other specifics of that page work best when they match as closely as possible to the same category as the site they are pointing to.  For a comprehensive list of linking strategies visit and bookmark my home page with many valuable resources including this link: 11 Experts on Link Development Answer Questions - just one of the many valued resources you can find there.  Another late 2008 Google interview article is available there revealing Google back link evaluation as well.

Pages where most links are placed jumble all of the different types of businesses together into one heap - and each link on the page reduces the value of the "proxy trust" (or vote) which that page has for your site.  By dividing your link pages up into categories and removing as many unnecessary links from each one as possible, your site receives the highest possible return value from links placed on those pages.  That was once a fairly good idea three or four years ago, but not any more.  Do not use links pages on your site. I should probably delete this whole section for fear of automated Google downgrade in web rank.

Today, three, four and five way links between sites functioning in a circular fashion provide a much better way to create inter-site page rank building links since neither search engines nor people working for them can easily determine such linking strategies, particularly when text rich links are placed in various areas of the site, and are relevant to the context of the sentence they are placed in.  For instance - Your health food site links to a fitness site, the fitness site then links to a an all natural organic skin care products site, and the skin care site links back to  your health food site.  All of the links are perceived by the Search Engine as one way links and you have gained the highest value for your outbound link, because you are receiving what the Search Engines deem to be a one way inbound link.

The entire linking system works even better through an exchange system whereby you place some relevant text known as "anchor text" as the link on one of your health food site web pages linking to the fitness site - such as making the words (in a sentence on your site where the words will contextually fit into what you are saying on that page) "Healthy food and low impact cardiovascular training work together to help you live longer and grow younger"

These links produce the most traffic.  While the links themselves are of some value for gaining traffic to your site, the most important benefit of multiple sites from unique IP addresses using good anchor text links is in how they will help lift your website in Search Engine ranking, bringing you closer to the top in more and more areas relevant to your type of business.

Aaron Wall, author of The SEO Book has a bunch of great videos on it.  I think it's amazing that he quotes that there are about 50,000 SEOs - which is about 1,000+/- per state, and yet many businesses still don't grasp the value of hiring an SEO service - much to their own detriment, and much to the satisfaction of their competitors who do hire SEO's.  The following video is one of Aaron Wall's from the www.seobook.com web site.
